Lid / Lacrimal / Orbital Surgery
Dr Helen Garrott is a consultant ophthalmologist who has specialised in oculoplastic and orbital surgery.
She graduated with honours from the University of Melbourne in 2000 and completed her ophthalmology training at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. She then undertook oculoplastic and orbital fellowship training in Bristol, U.K. , and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
In 2010 she was appointed as Head of the Orbital Service at Bristol Eye Hospital, a major university teaching hospital. In that role Dr Garrott has managed complex oculoplastic and orbital referrals from the whole of the South West of England. She has worked collaboratively with multiple specialities, including plastic surgeons, neurosurgeons, maxillofacial surgeons and ENT surgeons in the management of complex head and neck cancer cases. Dr Garrott has been involved in teaching throughout her career, including training oculoplastic fellows, registrars, ophthalmic nurses, medical students and opticians. She has presented at international conferences and widely published in the field of oculoplastic surgery. She has been involved in research including into management of thyroid eye disease.
She is a member of BOPSS (British Oculoplastic Surgery Society) and an associate member of BAPRAS (British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons).
Dr Garrott has now returned to Melbourne and has private and in public practices at Cabrini Hospital Brighton, the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.
Dr Garrott provides a comprehensive range of eyelid and orbital surgery, including eyelid surgery for drooping upper eyelids (ptosis surgery), surgery for upper eyelid hooding (upper lid blepharoplasty), lower eyelid bags (lower lid blepharoplasty), out-turning lower eyelids (ectropion), in-turning lower eyelids (entropion), orbital decompression surgery (as part of surgical rehabilitation for thyroid eye disease), lacrimal drainage surgery for watery eyes (DCR), and skin cancer surgery around the eyes with complex reconstruction when required.
